It is well understood nowadays the important and crucial role the ICT sector plays in modern time’s social change. Telecommunications networks with new, state-of-the-art technologies particularly the mobile phone, the Internet and high speed data networks mandated that every nation must re-consider its socio-economic structure. Nations should start to rearrange their domestic policies according to new rules and new systems to contain – at least – any impending deviations and harmful effects. Such negative impact may be potentiated by the noticeable transformation in life style due to the matter-of-fact quality and quantum leap of ICT sector.

Sudan is presently equipped with an up-to-date national telecommunications system and is considered one of the best nations ready and adequately prepared for the Information Age. NTC, on its part, managed to furnish a telecommunications’ industry market based on free competition bound by pertinent legislation frame. NTC also managed to control access to market through appropriate licensing for new services heeding the quality and efficiency of performance.

NTC, in addition, initiated the proper procedures to bridge the digital divide through the implementation of Universal Service/Universal Access policies and expanding the geographical coverage to inhabited areas (more than 60% covered by now), to areas of economic value and to national roads.

In order to support the forthcoming stage of national growth and fulfill the State objectives of entrenching the knowledge society, developing social sectors to catch up with the new modernization presently looming for developing countries, and in line with the NTC declared objectives and NTC contention that the ideas and vision of the stakeholders and those who have genuine interest in the ICT sector development are of prime value and according to the international practice of  having all stake holders consulted, NTC asks all to proffer their expertise and knowledge in order to support her making the right decisions and sound related policies.
